Planning a family trip to Shizuoka and looking for a hotel that’s comfortable, convenient, and affordable?

In this article, I’ll share our personal experience staying at Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex, a modern hotel with reasonable prices just a short walk from JR Shizuoka Station.

Hello! I’m Takeru, a Japanese father traveling with my two daughters (ages 5 and 2 at the time of writing). Thank you for visiting our blog!

As a parent of two children, I know how important it is to find accommodation that’s both family-friendly and budget-friendly—and this hotel was exactly that.

With spacious Japanese-style tatami rooms, helpful services for families, and a surprisingly good free breakfast, Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex was one of the best-value places we stayed during our trip.

In this review, you’ll find everything you need to know before booking, including:

  • What the rooms are really like (with photos)

  • How to find the right room on Booking.com or Agoda

  • Access info, breakfast details, and more

Let’s get started!

One of the highlights of this hotel is its Wa-Modern Twin Room—a Japanese-style room with a modern twist.
Spacious and comfortable at 24 square meters, it’s an ideal option for families traveling with children.

Room rates may vary depending on the season, day of the week, and the plan you choose.
However, prices typically start around ¥7,000 per person, and children under school age can stay for free when sharing a bed with a parent—making this hotel a very budget-friendly choice.

Inside the room, you’ll find:

  • Two low-frame beds (safer for children),

  • A large 65-inch TV (with screen mirroring available for smartphones),

  • A refrigerator, air purifier, and all other essentials for a comfortable stay.

Because the hotel opened recently, everything—including the bathroom—is clean and well-maintained.
It felt fresh and pleasant during our stay.

If you need any extra items, you can check the self-service rental corner near the elevator on the first floor.
There, you’ll find a variety of useful items such as:

  • Different types of pillows,

  • Phone charging cables,

  • DVD players,

  • And even baby care items (a big plus for families!).

List of rental amenities available at Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex

Out of the hotel’s 196 total guest rooms, there are only 10 Wa-Modern Twin Rooms available.

These rooms are especially popular with families thanks to their comfort and affordability, so they often get fully booked—especially on weekends and holidays.

🔎 Note:
On booking websites, this room may be listed under a different name.

  • On Booking.com: “Deluxe Twin Room – Non-Smoking”

  • On Agoda“Modern Japanese (Twin) Room”

To make sure you’re viewing the correct room, check the photos and look for mentions of a Japanese-style room.

If you find an available date, we recommend booking it right away rather than waiting—these rooms tend to sell out quickly!

Facilities and Services at Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex

Here’s an overview of the check-in process, hotel amenities, and services available at the hotel.
Despite its affordable rates, I found the overall value and quality—especially the rooms—to be excellent.

From Arrival to Check-In

🚗There’s an open-air parking lot on the hotel grounds with space for around 30 cars.
If it’s full, there’s a Times coin-operated parking lot just across the intersection, on the JR Shizuoka Station side.

Both parking options cost ¥800 per night.
If you use the Times parking lot, just pay the fee at the hotel front desk in advance. They’ll give you a ticket that can be used at the parking machine.

🍹 From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the hotel offers a complimentary “happy hour” drink service.

If your whole family takes part, the drink service could easily make up for your parking fee—making it a nice little bonus!

Amenities and Other Items

Toiletries and self-serve amenities such as toothbrushes, cleansing oil, toner, facial lotion, coffee, and tea are available on a rack near the front desk (1st floor).

Note that these items are not placed in guest rooms, so be sure to pick up what you need when checking in.

Large Public Bath & Other Facilities

While each room has its own private bathroom, the hotel also features gender-separated large public baths on the 1st floor.

According to the official website, the hotel offers two types of hot baths (not natural onsen):

  • “Black Silica Bath”: Features negative ions and far-infrared effects

  • “Shozan Stone Bath”: Rich in minerals and also generates negative ions

These baths are switched daily between men and women.

Although we didn’t use them during our stay, the hotel also features:

  • A kids’ playroom with views of passing trains

  • A fitness room with treadmills

  • A relaxation room with massage chairs

Complimentary Breakfast with Restaurant-Level Quality

One of the standout features of this hotel is its delicious complimentary breakfast.
Kuretake Inn is operated by the Kuretake Group, a company that originally started in traditional Japanese cuisine.

Their strong focus on food has helped them grow into a respected hotel chain nationwide.

The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of tasty dishes, and I personally found it very satisfying.

Many of the staff are local mothers, and you can feel a warm, homely atmosphere throughout the dining area.

In addition to classic dishes, they also serve regional handmade items inspired by Shizuoka cuisine.

🔺 One minor downside: The dining space can feel a bit small when the hotel is busy.
If you’re eating with small children during a crowded time, it may be a little tricky to move around with trays while avoiding other guests.

You can check the breakfast room’s congestion status on the in-room TV, which is super helpful!

Free Wi-Fi in All Rooms

Like most modern hotels, this one offers free Wi-Fi in every room.

The large smart TVs in the rooms allow you to:

  • Log in to your own Amazon Prime or Netflix account

  • Mirror your smartphone screen and watch YouTube

I tested these features during my stay and the internet connection was stable with no issues.

How to Access Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex

The hotel is located about 500 meters east of JR Shizuoka Station’s North Exit, along National Route 1.
It’s a 12-story building, so it’s quite easy to find even from a distance.

From JR Shizuoka Station (on foot)

It takes about 10 minutes on foot from the station.
However, if you’re traveling with small children or carrying a lot of luggage, it may be more convenient to take a taxi.

You’ll find the taxi stand on the left-hand side (west side) of the North Exit.

⚠️ Be careful not to confuse this hotel with a similarly named property nearby:
Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Ekimae is part of the same hotel group and is located along the way.
Make sure to head to the Annex, not the Ekimae location.

🚕 Taxis and Ride-Hailing Options
There are usually no taxis waiting in front of the hotel, so if you’re checking out and heading somewhere else, it’s best to use a ride-hailing app to call a taxi.

We recommend downloading and registering in advance, so you can use it quickly when needed.

In Japan, the most widely used taxi app is GO, which has quickly become the top ride-hailing service in the country.

GO lets you:

  • Call a taxi directly from your smartphone

  • Track the driver’s location in real time

  • Pay cashless (credit card or app wallet)

  • Choose pick-up points easily, even in busy areas

The app is available in English and can be downloaded from both the App Store and Google Play.

Bonus for first-time users:
New users often receive discount coupons that can be used right away.
(Check the app for current promotions, as they may change without notice.)

Arriving by Car

If you’re driving via expressway, here are the approximate travel times:

  • 13 minutes from Tomei Shizuoka IC

  • 20 minutes from Shin-Tomei Shin-Shizuoka IC

If you’re sightseeing around the city before heading to the hotel, you don’t necessarily need to use the highway.
Just follow Route 1 toward JR Shizuoka Station, and the hotel is along the way.

Summary

If you’re traveling with young children, a Japanese-style room with futons is a safe and relaxing choice, as you won’t have to worry about your child falling off a bed while sleeping.

While traditional Japanese inns (ryokan) are also nice, they tend to be more expensive and harder to find within walking distance of major train stations.

That’s why Kuretake Inn Premium Shizuoka Annex stands out:

  • Newly opened in 2022

  • Comfortable and spacious Wa-Modern Twin Rooms

  • Located just a short walk from JR Shizuoka Station

  • Affordable rates

  • Delicious local-style breakfast

There are only 10 Wa-Modern Twin Rooms in the entire hotel, and based on my research, there aren’t any other nearby hotels with the same combination of features.

👉 If you find one available, I recommend booking it as soon as possible!
